Review: Chanel Poudre Universelle

A while ago I bought this powder because I have noticed that high end powders cause a lot less cakeyness on my skin. I always love a matte soft focus finish without any powder showing.

I noticed first that this powder smells nice, it's very pleasant to use. It comes with a very soft square sponge that however doesn't seem to pick up a lot of product. It takes a while to get my skin skin free.

However, the first time I used this I felt absolutely glowing. Natural, but still matte. And luxurious! It feels like you got nothing on your face. I went swimming in the ocean with this and it didn't start to melt or cake together with my foundation, how cool is that? Then again, I was wearing the Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation, which can survive anything.

I did hower oil and sweat through that powder and in order to not ruin the compact, I didn't blot my oily face with this powder, but first absorbed all oils with DHC blotting papers. Then I dabbed some of this powder back on. I sure put it to a harsh test as it was 40° C in my country. I'm sure the powder will perform better on normal days. No powder can stop my oils these days.

The downside is, because it is so sheer, it feels almost a bit "too natural". It could never hide an imperfections, for example.

Anyway, the fancy packaging, the light scent, and the natural effect make it all worth it. I do think that any powder would perform better in normal weather conditions. I might repurchase, if I ever find a job during corona times. If not, back to me old cakey Maybelline powder. Maybe she's unemployed?! Maybe it's Maybelline!
