RS Charts: Beyoncé Remix Powers Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Savage’ to Number One - Rolling Stone

Posted: 11 May 2020 01:08 PM PDT

Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage" remix, which features verses from Beyoncé, claimed Number One on the latest Rolling Stone Top 100 Songs chart. "Savage," which has become enormously popular on TikTok, hung out in the Top Ten for all of April. The addition of Beyoncé helped the single earn more than 26 million streams, good enough to jump to the top of the chart. The presence of Beyoncé had a similarly galvanizing impact on radio programmers: The "Savage" remix jumped from Number Five to Number One on rap radio.

Megan Thee Stallion wasn't the only artist pulling from the remix playbook: Doja Cat's "Say So," another enormously popular TikTok record, jumped to Number Two on the latest RS 100 thanks to a new Nicki Minaj verse. Minaj adds a double-time rap to Doja Cat's breezy disco revival; "Say So" amassed more than 19 million streams.

The Rolling Stone Top 100 chart tracks the most popular songs of the week in the United States. Songs are ranked by song units, a number that combines audio streams and song sales using a custom weighting system. The chart does not include passive listening like terrestrial radio or digital radio. The Rolling Stone Top 100 chart is updated daily, and each week Rolling Stone finalizes and publishes an official version of the chart, covering the seven-day period ending with the previous Thursday.

Outside of the Top Two, Drake owned the RS 100 with new songs from Dark Lane Demo Tapes project. He accounted for half of the Top Ten and 11 of the Top 20; every new song on Dark Lane Demo Tapes debuted in the Top 25. The leader was "Pain 1993," a low-slung collaboration with a chirping Playboi Carti, followed by "Chicago Freestyle," which pays homage to Eminem's "Superman" and also incorporates vocals from Giveon, a young singer signed to Epic Records.

On the lower reaches of the Top 100, another TikTok record is starting its climb: Melanie Martinez's "Play Date." The song originally came out way back in 2015; it was earning around 350,000 to 400,000 audio streams a week through the beginning of April, according to the analytics company Alpha Data. Once TikTok users latched on to the track, audio streams jumped to 1.2 million, than 3.5 million, than 4.2 million. "Play Date" is now at Number 87 on the latest RS 100.

When she's not becoming a viral sensation with her coronavirus hand-washing tutorial, Blue Ivy is taking the time to perfect her dance moves.

On Tuesday, the eight-year-old's personal stylist (yes, she has one) Manuel A. Mendez shared a video on Instagram of Jay-Z and Beyoncé's eldest child busting a move to Beyoncé's 'Mood 4 Eva' song from the 2019 soundtrack The Lion King: The Gift.

The footage, which originally featured in Queen Bey's Making the Gift documentary, sees Blue Ivy wearing a baby pink jumpsuit, a matching coloured bandeau and a plum-coloured lipstick.

'Mood 4 Eva. #love,' her stylist captioned the clip while his followers took to the comments section of the post to share their joy at seeing Blue Ivy dance.

'Blue Ivy, go get it girl,' wrote one Instagram user.

'Love that vibe,' added another.

Mendez previously worked for Beyoncé as her personal assistant before becoming Blue Ivy's stylist in 2018.

In recent years, the famous child has worn everything from a custom Valery Kovalska-designed tuxedo to the 2018 Grammys and a Gucci varsity jacket to a sports game in 2016.

On Sunday, Beyoncé's grandmother Tina Knowles-Lawson shared a video of herself and 'bonus daughter' Kelly Rowland to celebrate Mother's Day in the US.

During the clip, which was shared on Instagram, Blue Ivy interrupted the couple's message to state: 'And don't forget all the beautiful daughters! Which I am one of them!'

On Mother's Day, Beyoncé shared a compilation of photos of her mother, describing her as 'savage', referring her hit charity single 'Savage' with Megan Thee Stallion.

Last month, the singer's eldest daughter went viral after starring in a hand-washing PSA to discuss ways to stop the spread of COVID-19, which her grandma described as 'brilliant'.

Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj And Camila Cabello: Expect These Songs To Chart Very High, Very Soon - Forbes

Posted: 06 May 2020 07:33 AM PDT

While much of the world is sheltered in place at home, the biggest names in music are still doing everything they can to make big moves and rise the ranks on the Billboard charts. In just the past week or so, a number of well-known figures have either announced or actually released new music, while others have recruited superstars to add new vocals to their existing singles, hoping to push their latest tunes even higher.

The songs mentioned below all stand a great shot of jumping up the Hot 100 in the coming frames, and there may be more than one future No. 1 blockbuster listed here.

Megan Thee Stallion - "Savage (ft. Beyoncé)"

It only took a little over one day of consumption for Megan Thee Stallion's new take on her hit "Savage" to rack up enough streams and sales to bolt into the Hot 100's top 10. The rapper had been angling for her first placement in the region, and she's collected it now thanks to Beyoncé's help. The singer jumped on an updated version of the Suga EP cut, and in a week or so, she may officially be credited on what could become a No. 1 smash.

Doja Cat - "Say So (ft. Nicki Minaj)"

Around the same time that Megan Thee Stallion unveiled her superstar collaboration, newcomer Doja Cat did the same. She recruited Nicki Minaj to add some flare to the single "Say So," which recently became the pop talent's first top five on the Hot 100. Now, with an even more popular name on board, the catchy tune could continue to climb, perhaps even going all the way to the top.

Camila Cabello - "My Oh My (ft. DaBaby & Gunna)"

No stranger to the top 10, Cabello has been attempting to send her most recent single "My Oh My" into the highest tier for some time now, though so far, she hasn't had any luck. The tune originally featured just DaBaby, but now a newly-released version also credits fellow hip-hop star Gunna, and as fans rush to hear the latest edition, all those new streams and sales may be enough to give all involved another big win on the Hot 100.

Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber - "Stuck with U"

Announced just a few days ago, Grande and Bieber's first single together, "Stuck with U," is coming this Friday, and while nobody has heard it just yet, it's already bound to do incredible things. With two of the most popular and successful pop singers fronting the cut, it's easy to believe it will open inside the top 10, and it wouldn't be too incredible to suggest the tune already stands a shot at rising all the way to the throne, or possibly even debuting there.

Marshmello - "Be Kind (ft. Halsey)"

Throughout the past few years, Halsey and Marshmello have both proved themselves to be consistent and reliable hitmakers, and now that they've come together to produce a single with both their names attached, there's no telling how massive it could wind up becoming. "Be Kind" has all the makings of a real winner, and at the moment, the biggest downside may be the fact that it was released alongside so many other major tunes.

Drake

Already the most successful artist in Hot 100 history by many respects, Drake is about to collect several more placements on the tally. His surprise new mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes looks like it's headed straight for a No. 1 debut, and the tracks featured on it will likely all find space on the most important singles chart, and a handful could easily open inside the top 40. In fact, the project, which has already produced a chart-topper in "Toosie Slide," may push more than one cut toward the top, potentially even landing the Canadian rapper another top 10 hit in a week's time.

Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj And Drake Land New Top 10 Hits On This Week’s Hot 100 - Forbes

Posted: 12 May 2020 05:45 AM PDT

The race to No. 1 on the Hot 100 was a very tight one this time around, and now a brand new winner has been named. Newcomer Doja Cat jumps from sixth place to first with her breakout smash "Say So," which is one of two tunes that rocket up the ranking thanks to newly-released remixes that feature superstars.

"Say So," originally just a Doja Cat cut, now also credits Nicki Minaj as it lifts to the top spot on the Hot 100. The song is the first top 10 and No. 1 for the former, but the latter has reached the highest tier many, many times before. Minaj scores her first leader with her eighteenth top 10 hit. The musician has also pushed more than 100 tracks onto the all-genre list.

Doja Cat and Minaj were battling with another powerful pairing, Megan Thee Stallion and Beyoncé, for the No. 1 rung on the Hot 100, and the latter two are forced to settle for second place. Last week, Stallion alone was credited on her single "Savage," which bolted into the top 10 for the first time, giving the rapper her first such placement in the region.

"Savage" rises to the runner-up rung, and now Beyoncé is also properly featured on the popular release. The song is the twenty-ninth top 10 for the Queen, who has now reached the uppermost arena 19 times as a soloist and 10 times as a member of Destiny's Child.

The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" falls from the top spot to No. 3, pushed down by the surging "Say So" and "Savage," and Drake's one-week ruler "Toosie Slide" also slips by just one rung. Behind those two sliding tracks, Roddy Ricch's "The Box" keeps at No. 5 and Dua Lipa's "Don't Start Now" advances from No. 7 to No. 6.

Drake debuts his new track "Pain 1993" at No. 7, making it the second top 10 hit from his new surprise mixtape Dark Lane Demo Tapes (following "Toosie Slide"), which itself debuts at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The tune gives the rapper his thirty-eighth appearance in the field, while featured act Playboi Carti lands his first.

The last three spots inside the top 10 are occupied by Post Malone's "Circles" at No. 8, DaBaby and Roddy Ricch's "Rockstar" (which returns to its high point) at No. 9 and Justin Bieber and Quavo's "Intentions" at No. 10.

Aided By Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion Scores Her First Top 10 Hit Behind Travis Scott’s New No. 1 - Forbes

Posted: 04 May 2020 12:22 PM PDT

Travis Scott is back at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with his just-released single "The Scotts," a collaboration with Kid Cudi. The rappers shared the cut under the name The Scotts, and now that they've pushed the cut all the way to the top of the most important songs ranking in the U.S., it's entirely possible they will continue doling out new tunes, and a complete album may even be in the works at this point.

Behind their new chart-topper, which is now one of fewer than 40 tracks to debut in first place, another single jumps into the highest tier on the Hot 100, refreshing things once again.

Pushed down by Scott and Cudi's incoming smash, The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" and Drake's "Toosie Slide" both take one step back, landing at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. The two tracks have already enjoyed some time on the throne.

New to the top 10 at No. 4 is Megan Thee Stallion's "Savage," which vaults from No. 14 all the way to fourth place. The track, featured on her recent EP Suga (which itself returns to the highest region on the Billboard 200 this week), is her first top 10 hit, and it may very well continue to climb next frame.

"Savage," which was already gaining ground, was aided in large part by a new remixed version that features Beyoncé, which was released last week. The new take was purchased and streamed rabidly, but it doesn't make up the majority of all consumption (it was only out for a day or so before the tracking frame closed), so Queen Bey isn't credited. Once a full tracking period wraps, that may change, and "Savage" could improve once again.

The rest of the songs featured in the Hot 100's top 10 fall from where they landed last week, displaced by Scott, Cudi and Megan Thee Stallion's new wins.

Roddy Ricch's "The Box," the biggest hit of 2020, slides to No. 5, coming in just ahead of Doja Cat's "Say So," which is down to No. 6, but which will likely rebound next week thanks to its own remix.

Dua Lipa's "Don't Start Now," Post Malone's "Circles," Justin Bieber and Quavo's "Intentions" and Harry Styles' "Adore You" find a home at Nos. 7, 8, 9 and 10, respectively.

From Marie Claire

  • Beyoncé made a surprise appearance during ABC's Disney Family Singalong Thursday night, performing an unsurprisingly gorgeous rendition of "When You Wish Upon a Star" from Pinocchio.

  • She dedicated the performance to "all of the health care workers who have been working tirelessly to keep us healthy and safe."

  • "Please hold on to your families tight. Please be safe. Don't give up hope. We're going to get through this," Beyoncé said.

Beyoncé's been absent from the internet of late, last posting on Instagram on February 3—which, naturally, caused the Beyhive to panic just a little. But our long and tortured wait for new Bey content could not have been more worth it—she made a surprise appearance during Thursday's Disney Family Singalong, performing "When You Wish Upon a Star." It was, as you probably anticipated, completely perfect:

Beyoncé dedicated her performance to "all of the health care workers who have been working tirelessly to keep us healthy and safe," adding, "We greatly appreciate you. And she sent a reassuring message to viewers when she finished singing, too. "Please hold on to your families tight. Please be safe," she said. "Don't give up hope. We're going to get through this, I promise. God bless you."

Another standout contributor to the event? Ariana Grande, who not only performed the Hercules number "I Won't Say I'm In Love," but also sang all the harmonies, shot the video, and put together the final product herself. "Wow wow wow," manager Scooter Braun tweeted. "She sang all the parts and melodies on her iPhone and mixed it and shot all the part on her iPhone in a day."

The performance reignited the internet's desire to see Grande cast as Megara in a live action remake of Hercules—and she's got a pretty impressive advocate on her side. Susan Egan, who voiced Meg in the Disney movie, tweeted, "Couldn't be more perfect! @ArianaGrande is the greatest thing since the pocket in pita!" Which delighted Grande:
