Quo Prismatic Collection | Spring 2016* (Swatches & FOTD)

quo spring 2016

Typically when I think of spring collections I think of pastels, florals, bright, cheerful, pink.  So, when Quo's spring collection landed on my desk, I was pretty impressed to see that they went outside of the usual and tried something bright, bold, and different.
I was sent two eyeshadow palettes, a face palette and a brow kit.

I mean look at that packaging.

Each of the eyeshadow palettes features a mirrored pink and purple swirl design.  The face palette has red and purple swirls, and the brow kit has blue and white swirls.  When opened each product has a generous sized mirror.  In general the packaging feels substantial and weighted.

Quo Prismatic Eye Palette "Infinity"* - $18

My favourite shadows are the dark purple and the two taupe shades.

The swatches start at the top left and move horizontal and then into the second row.

The left side has the shadow without a primer and the right side shows it with a primer.

This palette features ten beautiful shadows generally in the rosey-taupe family.  Seven shadows are matte and three are satins.  This is a very wearable palette that generally blends quite well.  I would say the shadows are of good quality and are not particularly chalky.  None of the eyeshadows have names so I will describe them based on their position in the palette and their colour.

I started by applying my favourite primer.  Then I applied the matte yellow-beige (top row, far right) all over my lid all the way up to the brow bone.  The I applied the rich eggplant purple (directly under the yellow-beige) in my crease, applying a few coats to add colour and dimension.  Next I applied the rose gold (directly beside the yellow-beige to the left) to my lid, and the white in the top left under my brow.  I finished it off with a swipe of my favourite mascara.  Over all I really liked this look. Together the colours remind me a bit of a sunset.  I thought it would be fun to put together a look with colours I don't typically reach for, and I am glad I did!

Quo Prismatic Eye Palette "Colourful Life"* - $18

My favourite shadows are the pink and purple shadows (Top and bottom, second from left)

The swatches start at the top left and move horizontal and then into the second row.

The left shows the shadows without a primer and the right shows the shadows with a primer.

Colourful Life has ten pastel tones eyeshadows, eight of which are matte and two of which have some glitter in them.  Given that these shadows are both matte and pastel I was impressed that they were reasonably easy to blend and had good pigmentation.  Of course to maximize the beauty of these shadows I used my favourite primer first.  They are a little bit chalky.

For my pastel look I decided to stick in the purple family.  After applying my favourite primer I applied the white matte shadow (top left) from by lid all the way to my brow.  I made sure it was pressed firmly into the primer as I wanted to get the maximum brightness and pigmentation from the next shadows.  I then applied the lavender shadow (top right) in my crease.  Once I had applied a few swipes of that I added further dimension with the darker purple shade (top second from left) in my crease.  Next I applied the pastel blue (bottom, second from right) all over my lid.  Then blend blend blend with a clean brush!  Again, these colours were outside of my usual and I kind of think I have a bit of a mermaid fairy thing going on.  I finished it off with some smokey purple eyeliner and a swipe of mascara.  I also added some of the pastel blue under my eyes.

I should note that this palette is very hard to use as a stand-alone palette. It was fun to try though!

Quo Prismatic Face Palette "Moonwalk"* - $18

Quo Prismatic Collection

Physically the face palettes are the largest in this collection.  Moonwalk includes a generously sized blush and bronzer, with a slightly smaller highlighter.  The blush reminds me of NARS Orgasm.  It is a rosy colour with lots of golden glitter.  The highlighter is a shimmering golden champagne, and the bronzer is a shimmering warm pink-brown that could be just as easily used as a blush.

I applied the bronzer in a "3" on my face, the highlighter on my cheek bones, nose and cupid's bow, and then buffed the blush on the apples of my cheeks.  I really like this palette-- perfect for summer vacations!  All you need plus a mirror in one easy to get to place.

Quo Prismatic Brow Kit* - $12

This little brow kit packs a punch!  It contains an actually useful applicator which is perfect for touchups, but not ideal to do the whole job.  While I wish one end was a spoolie (mascara wand) I appreciate that one end if stiffer and the other smoother.  This product contains a gooey wax, a lighter warm brown powder and a cooler darker brown powder.  This product only comes in one universal set of shades, so while the darker is not ideal for me the lighter one is pretty much spot on for what I usually like to use.

I groomed my brows with a spoolie and then put some wax on my brush and some product.  I then applied the product using little upward flicks smoothing out near the tail of my brows.  When I ran out of product I added more wax and more powder.  Once I was done I touches up using just powder. This is actually my favourite item I got to test.

This collection also includes a cooler blue/grey toned eyeshadow palette (Intergalactic), a more pink/neutral face palette (Stardust) and four Quo by ORLY nail polishes.

This collection is available exclusively at Shoppers Drug Mart in March, so you may have already seen it in store!

The only challenge I have with this set is identifying the two shadow palettes once they are closed and in my palette drawer.

Is there anything you are planning to pick up from this collection or that really stands out for you?

Products were sent for my review.  As always, all opinions are my own!

I have recently upgraded my photo station.  I took original photos using my old stuff, and then swatched it.  Now that I have new tools I took new photos, post swatch.  Sorry :)
